Stone Lake, 2022

FORTA-FERRO – OptiPave System
Total Project Size: 600,000 sq ft | Dosage: 4.0 lb/cu yd

This high-volume parking lot was designed using the OptiPave System with FORTA-FERRO macro synthetic fibers to provide the owner with a durable, sustainable, cost-effective concrete pavement.

The proprietary design system, significantly reduces the amount of curling and prevents both edges of the panel from being loaded simultaneously. This optimized design permits significant reduction in thickness while providing owners with a durable concrete pavement that requires minimal maintenance.

FORTA-FERRO – Pavement
Fiber Length: 2.25″ | Dosage: 4.0lbs./cu. yd.

FORTA-FERRO was used to reinforce a concrete pavement slab used for heavy industrial equipment in Zelienople, PA.

Walmart-Paving-Project-9

Multi-National Distribution Center, 2019

FORTA-FI® – Parking Lot

An American multi-national distribution center in Arcadia, FL used FORTA-FI fiber to reinforce a new parking lot. This new construction used 1,600 lb of fiber and was laid at a thickness of 6”. FORTA-FI was used in both the wearing course and base layer of this project. The wearing course was 2” thick, and the base layer ended up being 4” thick and consisted of shell limestone.

How Can Fiber Reinforcement Reduce Maintenance Requirements and Extend the Service Life of Buildings and Infrastructure?

Fiber reinforcement enhances the structural integrity of concrete and asphalt, leading to longer-lasting buildings and infrastructure with reduced maintenance.

In concrete applications, advanced fibers such as FORTA-FERRO replace traditional steel reinforcement, offering superior crack control and increased impact resistance while eliminating corrosion issues.

For asphalt pavements, FORTA-FI strengthens the mix to reduce cracking and rutting. It can extend pavement life by up to 50% compared to traditional asphalt, resulting in lower maintenance costs.

The OptiPave system optimizes pavement designs, reducing stresses and minimizing curling to further enhance durability and minimize maintenance needs.

How Does Fiber Reinforcement Support Sustainable Construction Practices and Reduce the Carbon Footprint of Projects?

Fiber reinforcement promotes sustainability by reducing material usage, promoting the use of recycled content, and extending the structure’s life span. Fiber reinforcement can eliminate the need for traditional steel reinforcement in concrete, decreasing the environmental impact of steel production and transportation. Products like FORTA GREEN-NET® are made from 100% recycled polypropylene, aligning with green building goals.

By extending the life span of structures, fiber reinforcement minimizes the frequency of repairs and reconstructions. Fewer repairs translate to lower resource and energy consumption, decreasing the project’s overall carbon footprint.

What Are the Potential Return on Investment (ROI) Considerations for Using Fiber Reinforcement in Commercial Projects?

Fiber reinforcement offers significant ROI benefits by lowering initial construction costs and long-term maintenance expenses. In concrete applications, fiber reinforcement streamlines installation, reducing project timelines and eliminating labor-intensive steel reinforcement processes. For asphalt, it enhances durability, cutting down on costly repairs, maintenance, and replacements.

The OptiPave system provides additional savings by reducing concrete thickness while maintaining performance, as seen in case studies where developers reported savings of up to $2.4 million per project.

What Are the Benefits of Using Fiber Reinforcement in Industrial Projects for Owners and Developers?

Fiber reinforcement enhances performance, reduces construction time, and improves safety in industrial projects.

Products like FORTA-FERRO and SUPER-NET®  strengthen concrete slabs for heavy loads, reducing cracking and maintenance needs. Eliminating steel reinforcement streamlines construction, lowers labor costs, and improves jobsite safety. FORTA-FI and the OptiPave system create durable asphalt capable of handling heavy traffic, leading to lower construction and maintenance costs while enhancing safety.

What Are the Key Cost Considerations for Owners and Developers When Selecting Fiber Reinforcement Solutions?

When selecting fiber reinforcement solutions, owners and developers should consider several cost factors, including:

  • Initial material costs: While synthetic fibers may have a higher upfront cost, they eliminate the need for steel reinforcement and the associated expenses. FORTA-FI and Pave-Aid offer thinner placement designs, reducing upfront material expenses while enhancing performance.
  • Labor savings: Simplified construction processes reduce labor hours and costs by eliminating the placement of steel reinforcement.
  • Construction time: Faster placement methods accelerate project timelines.
  • Maintenance expenses: Enhanced durability results in fewer repairs and lower long-term maintenance costs.
  • Life cycle costs: Evaluating the total cost of ownership reveals that initial investments in fiber reinforcement lead to overall savings due to extended service life.
