OVERVIEW

FORTA GREEN-NET is made from 100% recycled polypropylene. It is an easy-to-finish polypropylene fibrous reinforcement in a collated fibrillated (network) form.

FORTA GREEN-NET is used to reduce plastic and hardened concrete shrinkage, settlement cracking, improved impact strength, increase fatigue resistance and concrete toughness. This heavy-duty fiber offers long-term durability and true secondary/temperature control by incorporating a fibrillated pattern and long length option. Non-corrosive, non-magnetic, 100% alkali proof, and 100% recycled.

Optimal Dosage Guidelines

Installation

Recommended dosage rate of FORTA GREEN-NET is 1.5 lbs. per cubic yard (0.9 kg. per cubic meter) of concrete added directly to the concrete mixing system during, or after, the batching of the other ingredients, and mixed at the time/speed recommended by the mixer manufacturer (usually four to five minutes).

Contact your local FORTA representative for alternate dosage rates used in specialty applications.

The Colleyville Eco-House

FORTA GREEN-NET was recently used on a U.S. Department of Energy demonstration project as part of its “Building America” program at the Colleyville Eco-House in Dallas, Texas. Used at a dosage of 1.5 lbs./cubic yard of concrete, FORTA GREEN-NET fiber helped control potential cracking while adding to the recycled content of the interior concrete flooring system.

Frequently Asked Questions

No changes to the mix design are required or recommended.

GREEN-NET is made from post consumer polypropylene goods, which would normally be disposed of in area landfills. Instead these items are recycled and extruded into useable polypropylene fibrillated concrete fibers. Typical items collected for this process include, but are not limited to, the following polypropylene (PP) items: battery casings, netting, cargo bags, carpet face fibers, packaging film, label stock, strapping, drinking straws, and seed bags.

FORTA products should be added to the concrete mixing system at the batch plant for best distribution. Follow the normal mixer manufacturers’ standard recommendations and ASTM C-94. Mixing time should be a minimum of four to five minutes per load at a normal mixing speed. The batch plant will be the most economical and safest place for the addition of the fibers. Typically, it is not recommended that fibers be introduced to the mixer as a first ingredient, but added with other ingredients, or at the end of the addition sequence.

Contact FORTA® for mixing and additional recommendations for specific types of mixing equipment.

Yes it does. ASTM C1116 states synthetic fibers should resist deterioration while in long-term exposure to the moisture and alkalies present in cement paste. Green-Net® is produced from recycled polypropylene, which is chemically inert and hydrophobic, thus complying with the standard.

By itself, GREEN-NET does not significantly increase the value of recycled material used in a project. GREEN-NET is typically added at a rate of 1.5 lbs/cu. yd. or 0.01% by volume. However, recycled fiber is another ingredient that can be combined with other “Green” ingredients, such as fly ash, reclaimed aggregates and recycled/storm water to calculate the amount of LEED points earned from the concrete.
