S 2700 West – 11-year update
Project Description
In 2014, the City of West Jordan rehabilitated a badly cracked section of South 2700 West using a 2.5-inch overlay of polymer-modified PG64-28 hot mix asphalt (HMA) reinforced with FORTA-FI fibers. This corridor experiences heavy traffic and seasonal environmental stress, making durability a key concern.
FORTA-FI’s high-tensile strength fibers were blended directly into the asphalt at the plant, providing enhanced resistance to reflective, fatigue, and environmental cracking. The fiber reinforcement was selected to extend pavement life and reduce future maintenance costs, delivering better long-term value than conventional unreinforced mixes.
Update
After more than a decade in service, the roadway has developed some surface cracking, but remains in significantly better condition than traditional unreinforced overlays. The results affirm the long-term benefits of using FORTAfied® asphalt for improved pavement performance and lifecycle value.
