Fairview Canyon – 6-year update
Project Description
In July 2019, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) rehabilitated 8.67 miles of SR-31 through Fairview Canyon using 14,117 lb of FORTA-FI fiber in a 1.5” overlay. The project replaced the aging pavement that had only received chip seals and patching over 64 years. FORTA-FI was selected to address widespread cracking, raveling, and sub-grade issues, offering a more durable alternative to Stone-Matrix Asphalt. This highelevation roadway faces extreme temperature swings, steep grades, and aggressive snowplow wear— conditions where fiber reinforcement delivers added resilience.
Update
Six years later, the road continues to perform under extreme conditions with reduced cracking and raveling. Fairview Canyon stands as a proven example of Reinforcement That Lasts™.
