Project Description

Township engineers were looking to extend the life of this heavily cracked cul-de-sac while reducing reflective and alligator cracking. This control vs. fiber project consists of one lane with a 3” intermediate course and a 1 ½” wearing course without fiber, while the other lane uses FORTAfied® asphalt for both layers.

11 Year Update

The FORTAfied® asphalt shows minimal signs of cracking after 11 years of wear and tear. FORTA-FI’s ability to hold the asphalt matrix is evident. The lighter color of the FORTA-FI asphalt shows that the reinforcement fiber is more adequately holding the asphalt fines together. This is also apparent by the visible pothole where the speed bump was removed on the control side. Although the fiber side shows some deterioration, it remains intact.
