Project Description

The City of Hillsboro repaved NE Grant St. in 2013. It is a busy road near a high school that sees a lot of bus traffic. Each lane received a 4″ grind with a 4″ HMA overlay. The north lane served as a control, while the south lane was reinforced with FORTA-FI®, the simplest and most cost-effective solution for longer-lasting asphalt. The City of Hillsboro reported that cracks began to appear in the control lane long before they showed up in the reinforced lane.

Update

As of 2022, the control side has 2035 ft of cracking, while the reinforced side only has 751 ft of cracking. A difference of 63%. Since 2013, the control lane has received a crack seal treatment and continues to show cracking while the reinforced side holds strong with no crack seal treatment needed.
